Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Whilom, an iOS app provided by Roman Petliakov, an individual developer ("Whilom," "we," "us," or "our"), handles information when you use the app.
1. Summary
Whilom has no user accounts and no Whilom-operated server. Your core travel data, settings, journal notes, and journal photos are stored on your device. Some information leaves your device only when Apple services process a request, when our service providers process subscription or crash information, when you contact support, or when you choose to export or share information.
We do not sell your personal information, use it for third-party advertising, or track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.
2. Information Stored on Your Device
Depending on the features you use, Whilom stores:
- travel history, including country codes, dates, arrival and departure times, time zones, and whether a record was added manually or by automatic tracking;
- settings, including citizenship, automatic-tracking and Schengen tracker choices, visa countdown information, display order, selected statistics period, and onboarding status;
- journal notes and photos that you choose to add;
- local operational information, such as the last confirmed country check, recent launch records, and local recovery snapshots; and
- subscription-access confirmation received from Apple.
Whilom uses an Apple App Group to share limited, derived travel and settings information with its widgets. Journal notes and photos are not shared with widgets. Whilom does not use CloudKit or another cloud-sync service for this information.
3. Location Information
If you choose to use onboarding country detection or automatic tracking, Whilom uses iOS Location Services to obtain a location and determine the country you are in. Automatic tracking can use location in the background when you grant the required permission.
Whilom does not store raw coordinates or routes. It stores the resulting country, time, and time-zone information needed to build your travel history. Whilom uses location accuracy only to decide whether an observation is reliable and does not retain the accuracy value. To determine a country, Whilom can send a location to Apple's reverse-geocoding service. If that service does not return a country, Whilom can use its bundled country map on the device. Apple handles information under Apple's Privacy Policy.
You can stop automatic tracking in Whilom settings. You can also change location access in iOS Settings. Turning location access off prevents new automatic location checks but does not delete existing travel history.
4. Journal Photos and Notes
When you select a journal photo, Whilom copies it into app storage, reduces its size, and re-encodes it as a JPEG. The copied file does not keep source metadata such as the photo's embedded location. Whilom does not keep a reference to the original item in your photo library.
Journal notes and photos remain on your device unless you choose to share a photo or create and share a backup. The destination you choose then handles that information under its own privacy practices.
5. Subscriptions
Apple processes purchases, renewals, cancellations, refunds, and subscription entitlement information through the App Store and StoreKit. Whilom does not receive your payment-card details.
Whilom uses Superwall to assign subscription experiments and measure paywall and purchase results. Superwall can process purchase history, an anonymous app or device identifier, IDFV, device and operating-system information, app version, locale, region, time zone, and paywall, experiment, and purchase events. Whilom uses this information to operate and evaluate its subscription offers, not for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking. See Superwall's Privacy Policy.
6. Crash Reports
Whilom uses Sentry to receive crash reports and improve app reliability. Crash-report sharing is on by default and can be turned off at any time in Whilom under Settings, Help & feedback, Diagnostics.
Crash reports can include crash details, app version, operating-system and device information, app-state flags and counts, and recent action breadcrumbs. Whilom configures Sentry not to send travel history, country codes, trip dates, journal notes, journal photos, screenshots, view hierarchy, network activity, or a Whilom user profile. See Sentry's Privacy Policy.
7. Support Messages
If you contact support, we receive the email address and message content that you choose to send. The prepared support email includes the app version and build, iOS version, device model, and locale. If you choose to include diagnostics, the message can also include settings states, counts, and operational timestamps. It does not include country codes, trip dates, journal text, or photos.
We use support information only to answer your request, troubleshoot problems, protect Whilom, and meet legal obligations.
8. Reports, Backups, and Sharing
You can create PDF or CSV travel reports. Reports can contain countries, country codes, travel dates, day counts, and a Schengen summary. They do not contain journal notes or photos.
You can also create a complete backup. A backup can contain your travel history, settings, journal notes, and journal photos. When you save or share a report, backup, or journal photo, you choose the destination. Whilom does not control copies after they leave the app.
9. How We Use Information
We use information only to provide app features, determine subscription access and evaluate subscription offers, diagnose crashes, respond to support requests, protect the app, and comply with applicable law. We do not use your information for third-party advertising.
10. Service Providers and Protection
Whilom relies on Apple for platform, location, and subscription services; Superwall for subscription experiment and conversion measurement; Sentry for crash reporting; and your email or sharing provider when you choose those features. These providers process information under their own privacy policies and terms. We require service providers that receive user data from Whilom to provide protection consistent with this Privacy Policy and Apple's requirements.
11. Retention and Deletion
Information stored by Whilom on your device remains there until you edit it, delete it, use Delete all my data, or remove the app. Whilom keeps up to two automatic local recovery snapshots and removes older snapshots. Temporary report and backup staging files are removed after the save or share operation finishes or is canceled.
Delete all my data removes Whilom's local travel data, settings, journal notes and photos, recovery snapshots, and tracking memory. Whilom retains the current empty launch record, your crash-report sharing preference, and a temporary subscription-access confirmation. It does not remove exported files, messages or files already sent to support, information processed by Apple, Superwall, or Sentry, or copies already shared with another person or service. You must delete those copies at their destination or contact the applicable provider.
We keep support correspondence only as long as reasonably necessary to answer the request, maintain appropriate support records, protect Whilom, and comply with legal obligations. Service providers retain information according to their policies and applicable agreements.
12. Your Choices and Requests
- Turn automatic tracking off in Whilom or change location permission in iOS Settings.
- Turn crash-report sharing off in Settings > Help & feedback > Diagnostics.
- Edit or delete individual travel and journal records in the app.
- Use Delete all my data in Settings to erase Whilom's local data.
- Email us to ask a privacy question or request deletion of support information that we control.
Because Whilom has no accounts and does not upload your core travel or journal data to us, we cannot access or delete that on-device information for you.
13. Children
Whilom is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child sent personal information to us through support, contact us so we can address it.
14. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to the information Whilom handles. No storage or transmission method is completely secure. You are responsible for protecting your device and any report or backup that you export.
15. International Processing
Apple, Superwall, Sentry, email providers, and sharing destinations can process information in countries other than the one where you live. Their privacy policies explain their international data-handling practices.
16. Changes to This Policy
We can update this Privacy Policy when Whilom's features or data practices change. We will publish the revised policy with a new effective date and provide additional notice or consent when applicable law requires it.
